Tomorrow will come on its green footsteps is a phrase from Sonnet 49, a poem by Pablo Neruda. The entire line reads Tomorrow will come on its green footsteps; no one can stop the river of the dawn. I've been reading Neruda poems lately (beginning in 2017) and they have inspired the title for a new cycle of works, beginning with these small watercolors. When I find in poetry something expressed that is akin to my relationship to nature and the phenomenological world, I sometimes memorialize the experience by giving titles to the work which are lines or phrases from a particular poem.” —Cicely Cottingham, 2018
